We are The Simpletones, a five man wandering vocal group performing acapella and barbershop music. Starting out in summer 2011 we have begun to build a competent repertoire of songs and have performed locally in pubs and at corporate events.

Trevor Locke (Arts in Leicestershire) writes: "Five guys with fine voices singing without instruments. With a set of beautifully harmonised voices, this group... went down well with the large audience. Their vivacious song list include[d] a rendition of the theme song from the 'Ghostbusters' film and their version of Sting's 'Englishman in New York.' Their range of tightly executed vocal registers and the presence of some well experienced vocalists in the group... gave them a most ear-pleasing sound. Dressed in their white shirts and gray waistcoats, they looked like a well organised bunch. Very entertaining."

Interesting Fact:

The Simpletones' collective weight is equal to half a '67 mark II mini cooper.

Nick "Spaceman" Pawley
Nick Pawley began singing at the age of 8 where he embarrassingly joined an all girls choir run by a convent. He studied economics in Warsaw from 12 years old and formed a black metal group called UchwytŚmierci, meaning 'DeathGrip.' He then pursued his career in economics, becoming the youngest person in Poland to graduate grade school. He formed his own company at the age of 14 and was bankrupt three weeks later. He was forced to pay thousands in damages to companies reliant on his assets and went into hiding.

He was eventually found in Leicester, UK and faced a community service charge that led him to join the Lancaster Community Choir where he met Ian and Simon. He also formed a number of unsuccessful bands in his years of exile, under false monikers. He talks in his sleep and is susceptible to being led away by the smell of fresh meat pie.

Interesting Fact:

Nick once segmented and fed himself an entire grapefruit with his toes.

Prominent Positions:

Tenor, Lead

Nik "Demon" Robinson
Nik began properly playing music at the age of 10, first learning the clarinet and playing for around four years while also taking up the guitar. At the age of 13 he fronted a pop punk band called Burnt to Perfection, in which he simply shouted a limited set of lyrics randomly interspersed between simple single string guitar riffs.

After the brief stint of being a frontman, he shied away from singing somewhat until he joined Wicked-Messengers in 2008 with Nick Pawley. He played drums and sung backing vocals for the band for nearly two years before the group split. He joined the Lancaster Community Choir, run by his former music teacher Simon Lubkowski in 2010 where he also met Ian. He now sings backing vocals for Glassfoot, has various musical projects ongoing including producing hip-hop tracks, and continues to sing in the choir.

Interesting Fact:

Nik can move each of his eyes independently and can almost do a backflip from standing.

Prominent Positions:

Baritone, Top Tenor

"Big" Si Lubkowski
After a brief career in the military as a young adult, Simon moved to Thailand to find himself. Instead he found and married a young ladyboy called Tong. He/She only wanted Simon for his money however so the marriage was quickly annulled and he returned to England to take a new direction in life. He wanted to better himself but also help others so he ran a small unsuccessful suicide hotline for a few months which resulted in a 0% save rate.

Finally he decided to teach music, and eventually went on to a very brief TV appearance which led to him taking over the school's choir. Wanting to expand his reach he formed a community choir and allowed people of all ages to come along and sing. He then decided he wanted to form a barbershop group and so he called on a few musical friends to birth The Simpletones.

Interesting Fact:

Simon can roll a cigarette with his tongue, upside down.

He started his adult singing career in the role of Leonard Meryl in the production of Yeomen of the Guard for Leicester Operatic Players in 2009. This was followed by Alfred (Die Fledermaus) in 2010 and Parchester, the family solicitor (Me and My girl) in 2011. Also took the role of Edwin (Trial by Jury) in 2010.

He is a member of the Sealed Knot civil war re-enactment society and regularly attends battles as a pike man. He also plays a lot of squash and has recently taken up golf. Ian "Bearded Machine" White
Ian was born in the late 1800s in a wood outside Chester, where he grew up a humble lumber merchant. He would often sing to himself and his kin by the fire at night, and it is rumoured that he is responsible for the continual revivals of folk music, and that he single handedly invented prog rock. He witnessed barbershop the first time around and has now decided the time has come to bring it back.

Ian's beard is the source of his extended well-being and long life. Pilgrims often travel thousands of miles to pay homage and pray to his beard that it may grant them long and prosperous lives also. He is a proficient craftsman and is well skilled with a bow or rifle.
